Eric P. “Easy” Shaver, 82, of Galesburg, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Hawthorne Inn, Galesburg.

Eric was born November 6, 1936 in Monmouth, the son of Glenn Cecil and Dorothy Louise (Hallam) Shaver. He married Arlene Miller. Together they had three sons, Steven (Gloria DiCandia) Shaver of Chesapeake, VA, Scott (Melissa) Shaver of Peoria, AZ, and Stuart (Vickie) Shaver of Indianapolis, IN. They later divorced. He then married Kay Manthe.

Eric is also survived by six grandchildren; Ryan, Lauren, Scotty, CJ, Zack and Kristian. Along with his parents, Eric was preceded in death by one sister, Glendora.Eric graduated from Monmouth High School in 1954. He then attended Monmouth College.

Eric’s professional career began as a teller at the Bank of Galesburg. During his 10 years at the bank, Eric advanced to Vice President. He then went on and worked more than 40 years as owner of the Shaver Insurance Agency. He took a great deal of pride in the personal relationships he established with clients and racked up hundreds of thousands of miles driving to ensure his interactions were face-to-face. His lifetime commitment to community service included: Board Member/Treasurer of Galesburg Kiwanis Club, Charter Member/Treasurer of the Galesburg Junior Football League, President of the Galesburg Jaycees and State Director for the Illinois Jaycees.

He also served as Board Member of the Galesburg Community Chest, the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, YMCA, and Prairieland Hospice Foundation. He was a multi-term Deacon at the Galesburg Presbyterian Church, and was later the Secretary and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Central Congregational Church.

Eric was a 40-year resident of Lake Bracken, where he enjoyed countless rounds of golf with friends and family, while also serving on the Country Club’s Board of Directors as well as numerous club committees.
