Emmett V. Powers, 85, Anderson, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on November 4, 2009. He was born February 10, 1924, in Elwood and resided in Anderson most of his life. He served his country in the US Army in the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles as a pathfinder during WWII. Emmett had worked in maintenance at Guide Division of General Motors for 33 years, retiring in 1993.

He was a member of West Cross Street Alliance Church and Madison County RC Flyers. He loved to fish and had a passion for airplanes. He is survived by his wife, whom he married June 24, 1950, Maxine Fobar Powers; children, Debra John Arnold of Pendleton and Terry Venetta Powers of Anderson; sister, Audrey Hitchens of South Haven, Mississippi; six grandchildren, Jessica Arnold of McKinleyville, California, Joe Arnold of Atlanta, Georgia, Trent Keri Lynn Powers of Bargersville, Janelle Roy Kelly of Anderson, Terry Joe Devon Powers of Bloomington and Lindsay Powers of Anderson; four great grandchildren, Rylee Arnold, Reese Arnold, Brooke Powers and Alex Powers and two step grandchildren, Ashlie and James.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jack Powers; parents, Clarence & Mollie Slattery Powers; three sisters, Elizabeth Goodwin, Laura Hollowell and Edna Loveless and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Community Healthcare Hospice for their compassionate care. A special thanks to Sarah, Hillary and Kellena.
