Emma J. Fortune, 74, of Jacksonville, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born June 25, 1943, in Louisville, KY, the daughter of John and Essie Warfield Jackson.
She is survived by two daughters and one son, Vanessa Y. (John) Tyus, and Troy D. Fortune Sr., both of Jacksonville, and Gloria J. (Darryl) Williams of Springfield; step-son, Anthony (Tina) Barnes of Jacksonville; nieces and nephews, James A. (Maria) Jackson of Las Vegas, NV, LaLonna Jackson of Jacksonville, and John Jackson Jr. and Michelle (Bishop Wayne) Green, both of Maryland; eleven grandchildren, LaMariss, Murry, Tyree, Rodney Jr., Troy Jr., Bianca, Tabitha, Quanita, Nicholas, Jasmine and Jonie; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Essie; three brothers, John, James and Lonnie Jackson; one sister, Annie B. Helms; nieces, Darshane “Shannie” Jackson, Sheila Burton and Cynthia Brown; and a nephew, Tyrone Greer.
Emma was a 1961 graduate of Jacksonville High School, and was a member of Mt. Emory Baptist Church. She had been employed at Kordite Plastic Packaging, Hertzberg New Method Book Bindery, Jacksonville Educational Daycare, and Pathway Services.
Emma enjoyed watching her favorite TV shows. In her earlier years she loved bowling and was a member of the Rockettes Bowling League. She was also a member of AMVETS Post #100 Women’s Auxiliary, and the Kingsman Club where she was an Elittes. Most of all, she loved Thursday Night Bingo at the AMVETS, and playing pull tabs and the lottery.
