My Story
I was given the gift of life and now I have to give it back. This was hard. But I was a lucky woman, who led a blessed existence, and for that I was grateful.
I was born on November 16, 1948, down in Mississippi, my parents were the late Johnnie Lynom and Mildred Hodges. I had a very fulfilling childhood, country living the best living. I will fast forward to getting married and being blessed with three of life’s most precious gifts and those were my children. I worked hard to provide for them and to show them the way of life. I even decided to go back to school in 1983 and receive my high school diploma, for me that was a big accomplishment. It help me get a job that I enjoyed and was able to flourish.
In 1993, I was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease. Life in a sense did change but I wasn’t going down without a fight. I kept driving, working and living life. My condition begin to progress which lead me to early retirement. After retiring I was able to spend more time with my family and enjoy the parts of life that I could. I watch my children have children and their children have children.
I knew my time to answer his call was getting near but I kept fight all while being tired and bearing the pain. I received a message on Sunday, September 15th. The message was whispered in my ear and it said this,” Emma it’s okay to go we will be okay we love you”. At that moment I knew then it was time to leave this earthly body and fly away. Family don’t cry for me for I lived a wonderful life. When the doctors put a timeframe on my life God said something different and gave me one extra year. And for that I was truly grateful. So when you think of me just remember all the good times we shared, all the laughs and know that I’m okay now.
I leave you to join my mother, my father, my sisters, my daughter, my son and my grandson. and I leave my legacy to live on through my daughter; Tina(Danny), sister; Laura my Aunts Charlesetta Watson, Sylvia Pointdexter, Essie Wallace and Martha Hodges, my grandchildren; Destina, LeKeisha, Antiono, Demonie, Loniqua and Deonte’ and my many great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
I want to say a special thank you to my cousin Cheryl, my Aunt Sylvia and April. April we had a lot of conversations about this day and I’m happy that you kept your word to me from the time I enter the nursing home and at my death. May God bless each of you.
