It was on July 18, 1944 that Emma N. Brown was born to the late James and Essie Brown Sr. in St. Maurice, LA. She remained in Winn Parish during most of her early years working and caring for her children. In 1972 she relocated to Shreveport, LA where she spent the remainder of her life.
She accepted Christ and was baptized at Evergreen Baptist Church at an early age. She received her formal education at New Enterprise Elementary and J.W. Gaines High School. After relocating to Shreveport, LA she obtained her cosmetology license. She enjoyed this profession and she continued to do hair sometimes just in her neighborhood. Of all her accomplishments she was most proud to be known as momma to her 5 children and granny to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Emma is survived by her five children: Herman Miller, Jr. (Deborah) Pineville, Betty Millhouse (James) Alexandria, LA, Michael Brown Sr. (Qulla) Houston, TX, Darwin Brown, Winfield, LA, Jeffery Brown (Katherine) Rosharon, TX. She was affectionately known as “Granny” to her 10 grandchildren: Michael Brown, Sr., Daniel Mitchell, Ahmani Haney, Tha’Ketta Barnes, Nevaeh Brown, Victor Brown, James Miller, Blair Brown, La Roger Brown, Michael Miller, Khloe (bonus granddaughter) and her 10 great-children. Left to cherish a life time of memories with Emma are her siblings: Melba Johnson, Shreveport, LA, Lestoria Pollard, Shreveport, LA, James Brown Jr. (Renita), Shreveport, LA, Mary Valerie, St. Maurice, LA, Glen Brown (Gwen) Houston, TX, Paralee Hunter (Charles) Houston, TX, Coleman Brown ( Patricia) Houston, TX, Clifford Brown, Shreveport, LA. She also leaves behind 10 great grandchildren, god children, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members.
Emma was preceded in death by her father the late James Brown Sr., mother Essie Brown, and beloved sister Clauddell Brown Davis.www.AllenDave.com
