Emma B. Highlander, 64, of Castalia, died at Firelands Regional Medical Center on Monday, November 17, 2014.
Emma was born in Anstead, W.V. on June 1, 1950. She graduated from Margaretta High School in 1968. She had been a member of Wayside Temple, Castalia, where she had been a Sunday School teacher for thirty years.
Mrs. Highlander was a teacher’s aide at Firelands Christian Academy until 2010. In 1988, she received the award of Foster Parent of the Year for Erie County.
Emma enjoyed crafts and reading, but she loved sunsets and playing with her grandchildren.
On October 2, 1971, she married Charles D. Highlander. He along with their children, Jeremy (Kristi) Highlander, Fishertown, Pa; Michael Highlander, Bellevue; Tiffany (Lonie) Moore, Castalia and Kristen Highlander, Bellevue survive. Her mother, Betty (Hundley) Haynes Nida survives, along with eight grandchildren, Jesse; Lydia; Lucas; Josh; Ella; Grace; Emily; Cole and one brother, Jesse Nida, Findlay; three sisters, Sharon (Paul) Booth, Rose City, Mi; Brenda Weller (Rob), Bellevue and Robin (Tony) O’Brien, Castalia. Her in-laws, Dennis Highlander, Green Springs; Vicky (Alan) Morris, Sandusky ; Pam (Criss) Sparks, Norwalk and Cindy (Steve) Wittenberg, Jackson, Wisconsin also survive.
Emma was preceded in death by her stepfather, Jesse Nida and her in-laws, Dale and Pat Highlander.
