After his discharge he returned to Russell; in 1954 he moved to Des Moines, Iowa, where he was employed by Solar Aircraft Corporation. In 1955, he was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Des Moines. In 1971, the family moved back to the Russell area and built a new home near his parents home. After working 33 years with Goodyear, he retired in 1988. He worked part time at the Russell Oil Company until 2004. He was known, in town, as the best pizza maker around, although he followed the same recipe as did others who worked there.
November 18, 1955, he married Betty Cain, of Van Wert, Iowa, in Des Moines and to this union, two sons were born; Philip in 1957 and Kenneth in 1960.
