Elton L. Smith, 61 of San Antonio, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009 at his home. Mr. Smith was born in Beaumont, Texas to Lyman & Lois Smith, moving to Nederland in 1964. He graduated from Nederland High School where he met his future wife Marilyn Pollock. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in commercial art from Lamar College of Technology in Beaumont. Mr. Smith was advertising director for Sears in Houston before operating his own company, Smith Cook Design. Elton joined UTSA in 1997 and currently was the director of the office of University Publications. He was an avid fisherman and loved working in his yard, feeding the birds and doing home improvements. Elton loved to laugh and make others laugh. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he was the loyalist friend any one could ever have. He was a long time Houston Oiler fan and continued to support the Tennessee Titans. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn (MJ) Smith, his son Kristopher, his sister Beverly Capps and her husband Gene of Bridge City, Texas; his two best friends John Poindexter and Frank Segura, and his loyal dog Bubba. Mrs. Smith wishes to express special thanks to UTSA, Journey Church and South Texas ENT for all of their prayers, support and love. She also wishes to thank the Bexar County Sheriff”s office for their courtesy and professionalism.
