Elsie Grody, 92, of Three Oaks, Michigan died Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Michigan.
Elsie was born July 28, 1915 in Chicago to Joseph and Emily (Koutnik) Horejs. She worked for Western Electric in Chicago and belonged to the Boots and Saddle Riding Club, a bowling league, and she enjoyed dancing at the Aragon Ballroom where she met the love of her life, William Grody.
Elsie married William on September 19, 1944 in Chicago. They moved to Union Pier, Michigan after buying a home and resort near the lake. She belonged to the Sunshine Woman’s Club, the Bridgman Couples Golf League, and St. Mary of the Lake alter and rosary society. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, eagerness to help anyone and her delicious Christmas cookies that she shared with friends and family.
After moving to Three Oaks, she became a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church where she helped with Bingo and bake sales. Survivors include her three loving children, Bill (Bronwen) Grody of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Cindy Grody of Three Oaks, and Marilynn (Terry) Wenger of New Buffalo, Michigan. She was blessed with two wonderful grandchildren, Mark and Heather Wenger. Her husband, William, preceded her in death August 31, 1995.
