With heavy heart, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend Elsie Orlita Glander of Gray Mountain, AZ passed away suddenly November 11, 2020 at Valleywise Health Medical Center, Phoenix, AZ. She was 75.
Elsie was born January 22, 1945 in Gray Mountain, AZ to the renowned Navajo philosopher Nevy Jensen and devoted Christian Sally Irene Robbins Jensen. Elsie was a magnificent weaver who started her weaving at a very young age. She worked as a housekeeper for many years in Flagstaff, AZ and began her work at Cameron Trading Post in 1996 weaving her beautiful rugs on site, demonstrating her complex artistry for visitors of the Trading Post. She was a master of her craft and a pursuer of her passion. She had the talent to create the image of the rug in her mind and weave the pattern to perfection. Her wit was as bright as her weaving, sharing stories and laughter with guests and colleagues. Photographed daily, interviewed by many and admired by all, Elsie was a shining star at the Trading Post and made many friends. She retired in May but continued filling orders from her home until she became ill. Elsie had a loving and giving soul who had a great love for God and her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and always looked forward to the annual family holiday gatherings.
Elsie met and married the late Harris Leroy Glander in 1983 while working in Flagstaff. She is survived by her combined children; daughter, Judy Jones; daughter, Evelyn Begaye; son, Phillip Glander; stepdaughters Dana Beyl and Robin Glander; and stepsons Rodney Glander and Jimmy Glander. Elsie is also survived by seven grandchildren. Juliann, David, Harris, Shondeen, Sheridan, Britney, and Shane; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Nora, Sadie and Imogene; two brothers, Jimmy and Fabian and six half-brothers and sisters, Gladys, Leroy, Geneva, Darlene, Katherine and Lavena; and countless nieces and nephews.
Elsie is preceded in death by her husband Harris, her parents Nevy and Sally, her sisters Lucinda and Orlita, her brothers Patrick, Jason, Bobby and Robert and her half-brothers Eddie and Julian.
