Elsa Maureen Rugo passed away at home in Seaside Park, NJ on Saturday, February 18, 2017, after a long illness.
She grew up in Bergen County, graduated from Holy Angels Academy, and received her Registered Nurse degree from Holy Name Hospital of Nursing. She worked at Overlook Hospital in Summit, Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, and Riverview Hospital in Red Bank. She worked for New York/New Jersey Blood Services and finally for Novartis Pharma where she managed the blood bank which provided needed blood for research. After retiring, she volunteered her services at the Van Dyke Hospice Care in Toms River, NJ.
Elsa is survived by her husband, John, her sons, John and his wife Ana, Eric and his wife Ann, and their children, and her grandsons, Alec and Jordan. She is also survived by her two sisters, Helen Murphy and Mary Cantaluppi, and their husbands, Joe and John respectively, her brother, Bill Schwerzler and his wife Ann, and many loving nieces and nephews. Elsa quietly helped many people over the years with her comforting guidance and her easy manner and remarkable grace. She will be missed by many and remembered by all.
