Obituary of Elnor Louise Morris

Elnor Louise Morris, Saginaw, MI, beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt,grandmother and great grandmother passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the age of 93. Elnor Louise Schroeder was born on August 4, 1926 in her grandmother’s farmhouse in Remus, Michigan to Herman and Amelia (Schmidt) Schroeder. During her childhood, she resided in Lansing, Detroit and Garden City living with the hardships of the Great Depression. After the death of her mother at the age of 16 she graduated from Detroit Northwestern High School – Summa Cumlaude, she worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in downtown Detroit for four years as a Steno-clerk, tracking war supplies across the country during World War II. Elnor married Derek Leighton Morris on June 28, 1947; a World War II Veteran who served 31 months in the Army Air Force. Before Derek’s death in 1980, he was a Band Director and High School Principal in Brown City, Napoleon and Croswell-Lexington High Schools. Elnor worked as a school secretary for several years, then as Treasurer Manager for the Sanilac County Teacher’s Credit Union for 12 years (later merging into Team One Credit Union. Elnor cared for her father-in-law for 5 years after the death of her mother-in-law in 1970. Elnor left Lexington and moved to Saginaw in 1984 to be near her daughter and grandson, Justin. Elnor enjoyed cooking (especially her homemade Pasties and Christmas cookies), gardening, reading and working crossword puzzles.

Elnor is survived by son, David Morris (Saginaw) daughter Sharon Gubbins(Saginaw) grandson, Justin (Elizabeth) Morris (Saginaw),two great-grandchildren, Luke and Gracelynn Morris, step-granddaughter, Monica (Rome) Woolery, two step-great-grandchildren, Benjamin Kackley and Katheryn Woolery, nieces Anna Keyes (Texas) and Kristine (Frank) Perri (Arizona). Elnor is preceded in death by her husband, Derek Morris, three sisters: Doris Cottone (Utica), Kathleen Martines (Farmington Hills) and Ruth Elzinga (Florida). She is also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Randy Gubbins and three nephews, Jim Cottone, Nick Martines and Joe Cottone.

Elnor will be greatly missed, remembered and loved always by everyone who knew her.
