Elmer P. Fehr, 94 of West Bend died January 5, 2013 as the result of complications following a fractured hip at Spencer Municipal Hospital. Elmer Philo Fehr, the son of Alfred and Mary (Gerber) Fehr was born September 24, 1918 in rural West Bend. He was educated in the West Bend Country School and graduated from the West Bend High School in 1935. As a young man, Elmer found the need to seek the Lord in repentance and was baptized in 1937. On November 2, 1941 he was united in marriage to Matilda Knobloch in Lester, Iowa. The couple spent their married lives farming in the West Bend area, moving to town in 1974. They enjoyed 30 years of spending their winters in Zapata, Texas. In their retirement they enjoyed woodworking and traveling. Survivors include his wife Matilda of 71 years and his six children: Doris (Martin) Zaugg of West Bend, IA, Wayne (Kathy) Fehr of Salem, Oregon, Robert (Barbara) Fehr of Blue Grass, IA, James(Sharon) Fehr of West Bend, IA, Ruth (Duane) Metzger of West Bend,IA and Daniel(Eunice) Fehr of West Bend, IA, his sister Hulda (Mrs. Fred) Wirtz of West Bend, IA, 36 grandchildren, 117 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Henry, Paul, Daniel and Eli and one great grandchild.
