Elma H. Brown, 98, of Jacksonville, IL died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
She was born March 23, 1912, in Princeville, IL; the daughter of Peter and Emma Kupfer Streitmatter. She married Russell W. Brown on September 14, 1935, in Peoria, IL and he preceded her in death on February 9, 1957.
She is survived by three children, Norma Bergeman (husband, Jerry) of Florrisant, CO, Ronald Brown (wife, Janice) of Ft. Lupton, CO, and Carolyn Joseph (husband, Michael) of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren, Russell Bergeman (wife, Gayle) of Denver, CO, Jerri Furnes (husband, Thor) of Woodland Park, CO, Sean Bergeman of Colorado Springs, CO, Mark Brown (wife, Kristen) of Aurora, CO, Becky Potmesil (husband, Scott) of Alliance, NE, Jennifer Niedergeses (husband, Phillip) of Smyrna, TN, Stacey Joseph (fiancé, Aaron Bruns) of Jacksonville, and Brent Joseph of Jacksonville; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Bergeman, three brothers, and five sisters.
Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Princeville High School and Brown’s Business College in Peoria. She was a retired geriatric activity aide at the former Jacksonville State Hospital. She also owned and operated with her husband, Brownie’s Tavern in rural Greenfield and previous locations in Hettick and Reader Junction. She was a member of the Jacksonville VFW Post 1379 Ladies Auxiliary and loved playing Bingo in her spare time.
