Wanda Wood, from Hobbs New Mexico, passed away peacefully in Gilbert Arizona on April 16, 2020, at the age of 95.  Wanda was born in Texarkana, Arkansas July 4, 1924, to Paul and Christine Brooks.  She also lived in Carlsbad, New Mexico and San Angelo, Texas. 

Wanda worked in San Angelo at Goodfellow Bombardier Air Force Base for 3 years.  She then moved to Hobbs and worked for the Hobbs Water Department for 3 years, then became the first lady mail carrier in Hobbs where she worked at the Hobbs Post Office for 37 ½ years.  Wanda followed in her father’s footsteps (Railway mail clerk).   She was a long time member of Asbury Methodist Church, then St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Hobbs.

Wanda was preceded in death by her daughter, Nicky Shepherd.  She is survived by 3 children; Mike (Gerri) Wood of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Pat (Becky) Wood of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Casey (Mario) Gonzalez of Gilbert, Arizona.  She leaves 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Wanda graduated from Carlsbad High School and spent most of her time there pursuing her favorite pastimes, swimming in the Pecos River and tap dancing.  She loved to travel, read, watch baseball and dance to 40’s big band music.  She always wanted to learn how to fly.

Wanda moved to Gilbert, Arizona in 2010 for health reasons.  She lived there in her own home with her dog Luca for 12 years.

Wanda was loved by everyone, always with her beautiful smile and blue eyes.  She was an amazing mother and grandmother.

Wanda will be deeply missed by her family and friends.  She will always be remembered for her loving heart, her smile and wonderful sense of humor.
