Ellen Louise (Jarrett) Landrey, 102, died on December 20, 2013 at Heritage Pointe in Warren IN, where she had resided since September, 2002. Ellen was the daughter of Harry C. and Edna Davis Jarrett and was born May 19, 1911 in Vernon Twp., Indiana.
She was a graduate of Fortville High School, attended Arthur Jordan School of Music, the University of Colorado graduate school, and held under graduate and graduate degrees from Ball State University. She was an elementary teacher for 54 1/2 years, having taught in Elwood City Schools, Nora School (Marion Co.), Anderson City Schools, Fortville and Mt. Vernon Schools.
She was a 92 -year member of the Fortville United Methodist Church, where she served as organist, Sunday School teacher and youth leader. She was the widow of Rev. Everett F. Landrey and together they served the Fortville church as well as Broadway United Methodist Church, Indianapolis. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, serving as an officer of the Northeast Indianapolis District for 8 years; was an honorary member of the Alpha Phi Chapter of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Fortville, serving as its president for two terms; and was a member of the Hancock County Retired Teachers Assoc.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marietta Zeis and Laura McFarland, a niece, Ellen Jane Graham Duffin and a great nephew, Steven J. McFarland. Survivors include nieces and nephews Mary Jo Graham Apple, of Mt. Juliet, TN; Jarrett “Jarre” Zeis, James (wife, Linda) McFarland, Marianne Zeis (husband, Larry) Cochran, all of Pendleton; Jerry McFarland of McCordsville; and many loving great and great-great nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
