Ellen A. Jurgens, 94, of Petersburg, IL, and formerly of Virginia, IL died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at the Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. She was born April 8, 1920, in Cass County, the daughter of LeRoy and Elsie Leinberger Newman. She married Edward G. Jurgens on September 18, 1940, in Petersburg and he preceded her in death on December 9, 1985.
She is survived by four children, Mary Ellen Verry of Fergus Falls, MN, Faye Jones (husband, Cecil) of Bloomington, Connie Lounsberry (husband, Mark) of Oakford, and David Jurgens (wife, Ann) of Virginia; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three siblings, Roberta Ruppel of Beardstown, Idella Ruppel of Chandlerville, and Arthur Newman (wife, Bonnie) of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, Judy Christine Jurgens; two grandchildren; and a brother, Virgil Newman (surviving wife, Carol of Petersburg).
Ellen was a devoted homemaker and farmwife for many years. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was formerly a Bread of Love volunteer and a member of the Virginia Lioness Club.
