SHUBECK, Ella Faye died peacefully on January 30, 2013, at the age of 95. Ella was born September 14, 1917, in Whittemore, MI to the late Joseph and Janette “Netty” Clark Lomason.

On March 15, 1941, Ella was united in marriage to Joseph Shubeck who preceded her in death in 1982. In 1936, at the age of 18, Ella moved to Detroit during the Great Depression to begin employment as a nanny.

During this time, she also held positions at Stouffer’s Restaurant and the historic JL Hudson Department Store. Shortly thereafter she met and married Joseph Shubeck. For 27 years following her marriage, Ella raised three children in Detroit, then Royal Oak, MI as a homemaker. She enjoyed a variety of creative pursuits including sewing, china painting, ceramics, and oil painting. Ella’s talents extended beyond traditional mediums to woodworking and cobbling as well. She was a voracious reader and an accomplished gardener. During the illness of her spouse, Ella returned to work as a Nurses Aide at Beaumont Hospital. She held this position for 16 years, until after the death of Joseph Shubeck in 1982. Ella lived in Royal Oak for 58 years until 2007 when she joined her family in Kalamazoo, MI. During the final 5 years of her life, Ella resided at Wyndam Apartments of Heritage Community of Kalamazoo. Ella leaves behind her children, Charles Kandie Shubeck, Sheryl Philip Grattan, and Michael Nancy Monsour Shubeck; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Ella in death were sisters Veryl H Ross and Lois I Tomac.
