Elizabeth (Whitlow) Olson, 90, of Middletown, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 25th. Born in Washington, DC on January 15, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Winston and Mildred (McDaniel) Whitlow. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two husbands, James W. Henderson and William F. Olson and her companion, Charles E. Lyman, III. Betty graduated from Roosevelt High School and worked for Aetna Insurance Company. During WWII she was a Red Cross Volunteer. In 1945 the Henderson’s moved to Middlefield. While raising their two children, she was involved with the Blood Mobile, was a Brownie Troop Leader, and was a Lymanettes (Women’s rifle organization) and secretary to the Dean of Admissions at Wesleyan University. Betty moved to the Philadelphia suburbs in 1966 and was instrumental in establishing Delaware Community College. In 1970 she married Bill Olson, who passed away in 1990. She reestablished her friendships with the Middlefield community especially Charles Lyman. They were companions until his death. Since then she enjoyed her work as a volunteer at Middlesex Hospital Home Care Department and continued her lifelong hobby of collecting dolls and cookbooks. Betty is survived by her son, Bob Henderson and his wife, Julie of Kailua, HI; her daughter, Carol Gale of Arlington, VA; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
