Elizabeth Carroll Fanning passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014. Born December 6, 1922, in Brookhaven, Georgia. She was the daughter of Nancy Bess Carroll and Robert E. Carroll.

She was a mother, a grandmother, a wife, and a Christian. Her family always came first; and she spent 56 years with her best friend, sweetheart, and love of her life Erle W. “Zeke” Fanning who preceded her in death in 1997. Elizabeth enjoyed reading, arts and crafts, and China painting. She was an avid bridge player, and she and Erle were always ready to host a bridge party for their friends. Though not in the military, she followed Erle, who was a pilot in the Army Air Corp, to his bases during WWII. While based in Texas she welcomed the birth of her son, Steven.

Upon returning to Atlanta she became a Delta pilot’s wife, thus beginning her love of travel with Erle. While in Atlanta she was blessed with a second child, Karen. She moved to Newnan in 1967, where she had a wonderful life and made many friends. Elizabeth never met a stranger, and always invited everyone she met to come to visit her in Newnan. She was always thought of as the sweetest and kindest person.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mildred Blake, her brother, Robert E. Carroll, and her husband, Erle W. “Zeke” Fanning. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Fanning of Newnan; son, Steven Fanning, Sr. (Diane) of Newnan; grandson, Steven Fanning, Jr. of Atlanta; granddaughters, Merideth Fanning-Gilmor (Mark) of Wilton, CT; Ansley Fanning of Boston, MA; great-grandson, Colin Gilmor of Wilton, CT; sister-in-law, Betty Carroll of Newnan; as well as, numerous nieces and nephews.
