Elizabeth Schut Evenhuis, 95, was born in Groningen Holland on June 8, 1926, and ended her journey in Ogden, Utah on December 10, 2021. She married Joseph Evenhuis on February 26, 1948, in Holland. They have two sons, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Liz has no middle name, but people called her Lies (pronounced “leesee”) back in Holland. She has blue eyes and natural blond hair, is 5’4” tall. She is the middle child among her siblings, with three older sisters, two younger sisters, and a younger brother.

Liz likes to go to bed around 9 or 9:30 pm and wake around 6 am. Her hobbies include puzzling (doing word finds), watching The Price Is Right on channel 2, and walking for an hour each morning.  Liz’s special talents are getting organized, ironing, and keeping the house spotless.  She also has a beautiful singing voice and has many hymns memorized.

Liz’s personality is outgoing, she is very social and loves to chat. She says roller coasters are scary, not exciting, just the opposite of  her husband. Some things that other people like about her are her polite introductions and how she brings food to sick neighbors. A few of Liz’s good friends were Gwen Lavender and Irma Franklin from next door, and Ida Strike back in Holland as a teenager.  Something people may not like about her is that she likes to clean so much.

The things that attracted her to her spouse, Joe, were his nice personality and his dark blackish brown wavy hair.  On their early dates she remembers that he was good looking and dressed nice, his clothes were made by a first-class tailor.  On those dates they often rode bicycles, motorcycles or took a train. They visited Friesland.  She says that something that helped their marriage last so long is that “they both give and take”.

Liz says that the most important thing in life is loving your family; this includes children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She loves the little children and pays them lots of attention.  In her life she is very proud of taking care of her husband and trying not to gossip.  She can’t stand it when people are cruel to animals.

A place Liz would like to go again is the Price Is Right Studios in Hollywood, California.  She would also like to go back to visit Holland.  She has traveled in Europe, North America, and parts of Central America.

People Liz would most like to see again are her sisters and brothers.
