Elizabeth Mary Deckman (Liz) age 94 of Port Deposit, daughter of Joseph and Mary McMullen, born February 25, 1924 passed away on December 18, 2018, surrounded by her family, after a very brief battle with cancer.
Liz spent the majority of her life as a devoted housewife, and later became a cook first at Dunkin Donuts in Elkton, then moving on to long-term career at Wellwood Yacht Club (nee Wellwood Restaurant) for approximately 25+ years where she spent her time in the kitchen cooking for all who visited.
During her lifetime she also worked with the Cecil County Office on Aging within their Senior Centers. Liz was a Lifetime Member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 8185 of Port Deposit. While she loved to cook and she passed that passion on, what she treasured most in her life was crocheting, gardening her flowers, and above all spending time with family at Christmas which was her favorite holiday and making her applesauce cake.
Liz was preceded in death by her loving spouse of twenty-four years, Harry Deckman, twin children – Joyce and Joseph, grandson, “Little Eddie”, as well as seven siblings. She is survived by her children – daughter, Sue Porter; son, Rick Deckman; and daughter, Anita Ward and her husband Marty all of Port Deposit; grandchildren – Angie Lawson and her husband Jason, and Steven Ward. As well as, four great-grandchildren – Ava Goncz, Wyatt Lawson, Jase Lawson and Landon Ward, in addition to her last surviving sibling Doris Rhoades of North East, MD.
