Elizabeth Jean Douville (Liz), of Richland, passed away at Borgess Hospital on Thursday, July 11, 2019 at the age of 60. She passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Liz was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on January 4, 1959 to the late Larry Haycook and Elizabeth Haycook (Calhoun).

Liz attended Battle Creek St. Phillip and Galesburg Augusta schools. After graduation she worked for an insurance company. But Liz’s real passion in life was children and she found her calling after moving to Orlando, FL. From the loving care and support she had always given to her own children, to the dedication and commitment she showed to all of the children in her extended day and day care classes, Liz spent the majority of her adult life devoted to helping children from all cultures. She was known to her extended day students as “Miss Liz” and it was not an uncommon occurrence to hear the words “Miss Liz” ring out any time she was out in public and was recognized by one of her children. Liz relocated back to the Battle Creek area later in life to be closer to her grandchildren and other immediate family.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents: Larry and Elizabeth Haycook, and two of her brothers, Richard and Robert Haycook. She is survived by her husband Steven Douville, her daughter Jennifer Smeltzer, her son Todd (Jennifer) Vankersen, and two grandchildren, Ciarra and Bryce Vankersen. She is also survived by her brother Howie (Jill) Haycook, and sisters Shelley (Scott) Kohl and Mary (Donald) White.

Liz made a positive difference during her life. She touched the hearts of so many people. She is already deeply missed.
