Elizabeth J. “Betty” Heppner, age 87 of Midland, died peacefully on Sunday December 27, 2015 at Hillcrest Adult Care Facility in Midland. The daughter of the late Roy and Julia (Strickland) Ames was born in Midland on August 6, 1928. She attended Midland area schools and then went on to work as a secretary and a sales clerk in her early years.

In 1947 Betty married Clayton Heppner and became a homemaker for her family. She had many interests and hobbies, including cooking, gardening, needle work, scrapbooking and reading. Betty loved to play cards and work crossword puzzles. She also loved wildlife and spent many years “deer hunting”, spotting deer on daily drives with Clayton along Midland County roads. Betty was a creative story teller, and loved telling jokes. She had a talent for making people laugh with her clever take on many of life’s subjects.

Betty is survived by her daughter in law, Ronda Heppner of Midland; many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as extended family at Hillcrest where she will be missed by the caring staff and residents.

In addition to her parents Betty was preceded in death by her husband Clayton; sons, Jerry & Gale Heppner; brothers, Sidney, Carl and Dexter Ames; sister, Esther Grell, Patricia Woods and Barbara Hauri and her beloved dog Heidi.
