Elizabeth “Betsy” A. Oppold, 62 of Freeport passed away peacefully at home with her family surrounding her after a long-term battle with multiple illnesses. She was born on February 10, 1959 in Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, NC to William and Rosalie (Weber) Turner. She married Kenneth Oppold on March 26, 1983 in Rockton at the ‘Church by the Side of the Road’. Together they built multiple successful businesses and raised a son, Christopher James.
Elizabeth attended Freeport High School (Class of 1982) She returned to school years later after starting ‘K&B Auto Body’ alongside Kenneth, spending valuable time raising her son at home for more than 10 years. After graduating from Highland Community College for Nursing (LPN) Elizabeth proceeded to work at ‘Rocvale Children’s Home’ in Rockford, Illinois for the next 18 years.
She loved working with the kids there and it fully emphasized just how big her heart was, and how much she cared for others. She continued to help Kenneth with the bookkeeping at ‘K and B Auto Body’ through all her years, and assisted in the purchase and revitalization of ‘River’s Edge Campground’ outside of Freeport, IL where she loved to spend her time.
She enjoyed taking frequent trips to Stone Lake, Wisconsin to see her husband’s side of the family, where Kenny and her purchased land and built a shed with a cabin together and would spent many happy days with friends and family. She loved hosting gatherings in her family’s home, bringing joy to those who were blessed to be a part of her life. She liked to collect recipes and cook for her family. She loved going out on the town with Kenny and seeing friends, taking long drives.
She loved traveling to Boston to visit her son while he attended college, and she supported her son throughout his entire art & music careers as his biggest fan. She loved camping, road trips, reading, doing a little shopping, and keeping up with the world through Facebook when she couldn’t get out of the house as easily. Most of all, she just loved taking care of her family and prided herself in being the best wife and mother she could be for them, and always was. Betsy always had a big bright smile on her face when you saw her, and nobody will forget the happiness and love she shared with everyone.
