Elizabeth A. Betty Bruno, 98 years, of Virginia, IL died Saturday evening, September 29, 2007 at her residence.
She was born December 5, 1908 in Virginia, IL; the daughter of Harry H. And Frances Chittick Conover. She married Frank Alvin Bruno on February 20, 1949 in Virginia, IL and he preceded in death on June 22, 1974.
She is survived by a niece, Carol Anne Cota of Springfield; two nephews, Herbert C. Snow (wife, Linda) of Virginia and Rev. Harold Edwin Snow (wife, Kathy) of Chattanooga, TN; three great nieces; four great nephews; four great great nieces; four great great nephews; a great great great niece; a great great great nephew; a cousin, William Yaple of Virginia; and several care givers who provided home health services. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Kathleen Snow.
Mrs. Bruno was a 1926 graduate of Virginia High School and studied at Penn Hall in Chambersburg, PA, Milwaukee-Downer College in Milwaukee, WI, and graduated from Simmons College in Boston, MA with a BS degree in 1931. She was employed 14 years as a librarian for the Lincoln Library in Springfield, serving in many capacities.
She was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, and United Methodist Women, where she held several offices both locally and at the conference level. She was also a member of Beardstown Chapter G.U. of the P.E.O. sisterhood, a charter member of the friends of Virginia Memorial Public Library, the Vachel Lindsay Association, and Cass-Morgan Farm Bureau.
