Elisabeth B. Flournoy (Lis), of Niceville, FL died September 2, 2013 of natural causes at Wynwood of Chapel Hill, NC. She was 82 years old.

Elisabeth is preceded in death by her husband, Commander Richard Flournoy, Jr. (Dick), and daughter Julia Klara Taylor. She is survived by son Wayne Flournoy and daughter-in-law Margaret Flournoy; son-in-law Michael Taylor; grandchildren Michelle Stephens (Mark), Kristen Taylor, Mark Flournoy and Paul Flournoy; and great-grandson Andrew Stephens.

Elisabeth, known as Oma to her grandchildren, was born in Erlangen, Germany on February 10, 1931 to parents Josef and Klara Reiter. At the age of 18, she moved to the United States, where she spent the rest of her life as a proud U.S. citizen.  It was in the U.S. that she met the love of her life, Dick. They shared many happy years until his death in 2002.

Lis fought many odds in her life. She lived through World War II as a German citizen, traveled by steamboat with her children to the U.S., and worked several jobs to support her children throughout their young lives.  No matter the adversity, Lis always came out on top.

Everyone who met Lis never forgot her, and she them. Lis was quick with a laugh or a joke.  Her personality and charm could fill a room with light and laughter, despite her small stature. She loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas and Biloxi, for a girls’ trip.  Lis loved fun clothes; she was a true fashionista.  There was always room in her packed closet for one more pair of shoes or a cute top.  She was also mischievous: playing silly pranks on her family.  People always knew when she was up to mischief by her giggles and her “who me?” expressions.   She loved music and dancing, especially with her husband.
