Elgie Thomas “Tom” Royster, Jr., 76, 126 Hedrick Drive, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died at Danville Regional Medical Center on Thurs., July 21. He was born on December 12, 1934, in Clover, VA, the son of the late Elgie Thomas Royster, Sr., and Mattie Gholson Royster. He was married 53 years to Mary Collis Royster who survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and he was retired from the Virginia State Police where he served for 26 years before retiring on disability. He was an avid outdoorsman and wildlife photographer, and several of his photographs were published nationally. He was a Life Member and Benefactor of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of Watson Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by one daughter, Janet R. Bishop and her husband Winn of Chatham; two sons, Mark T. Royster and his wife Cindy of Keeling; and Matthew R. Royster and his wife Leisa of Danville; seven grandchildren: Lauren Shelton and her husband Daniel ; Heather Green and her husband Anthony; Caitlyn Bishop and her fiancé Patrick Kroboth; Bethany Royster, Rachel Royster, Nathanael Royster, Micah Royster; three great-grandchildren: David Royster, Nora Shelton, and Shaine Green.
