Elene S. Demos, Ph.D., 70, of New Britain died on Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Hospital for Special Care. She leaves her beloved companion and best friend Susan M. Egan. Born in Muskegan, Mich, daughter of the late Spiro and Ruby Demos, she grew up there and was a New Britain resident for the last 23 years. Elene graduated from Michigan State University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts Degrees. She went on to earn a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Demos came to CCSU in 1992 and rose through the ranks, primarily in the School of Education and Professional Studies, eventually nominated to Professor Emeritus, in the Dept. of Reading and Language Arts. Survivors include her brother: Steven S. Demos and his wife Kathleen, four nephews: Matthew, Mark, David and Daniel Demos, her brother: Constantine S. Demos, his wife Karen, niece Donyle Penelope (Shaun Clark) great niece Ruby Elena, niece Demitria Kara (Jason Ray) great niece Toula Karena, great nephew Aristosios Nikkolaas, niece Deanna Marzi (Michael Blackwell), great nephews David Constantine and Daniel Michael. She also leaves her long time beloved dog “Socrates”. Elene’s family would like to thank the staff at the Hospital for Special Care for all the care and compassion they extended during her brief time there.
