Eleanor Rueger Strecker, age 97, of Milford passed away in peace on March 2nd at her home that she loved. She was born in New Haven on July 14, 1909, daughter of the late Harry and Eda Rueger Strecker. In 1930, she graduated from New Haven Normal School, now known as Southern Connecticut State University. She was a first grade teacher in the Milford Public School System for 38 years having retired in 1968. She remembered something special about all of her first graders and always kept their names in her mind. She had just received a phone call from a former student who now resides in Paris, France, three days before she passed away. She lived simply, shunning non-essential conveniences, and especially found great satisfaction in tending her thriving ivy plants. She had been an avid gardener and knitter throughout her lifetime. Having been a constant reader and word puzzle enthusiast, her mind was sharp and her memory extraordinarily keen. She thought of her internist, Dr. Pang Wang, as a cheerful, caring medical doctor and trusted friend.
