NEW HARTFORD – Eleanor “Ellie” Louise (Root) Dyer, 65, passed away on Saturday (April 25, 2009) at her home after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. In the last precious days of her life, she was surrounded by her family and friends, which was exactly what she had wanted. Ellie lived in New Hartford with her husband of 47 years, Richard Carl Dyer, where they would spend afternoons watching the wildlife that frequently visited their beautifully landscaped yard nestled in the woods. On most sunny days you would find her outside on her deck swing, just enjoying a nice breeze or soaking up the warm sun. Besides her husband Richard, she leaves behind her three daughters, June Wasel and her husband Erik Wasel of New Hartford, Tori Bilello and her husband Leo Bilello of Terryville, and Katie Preston and her husband Josef Preston of Winsted. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, which were the loves of her life, and brought joy into her heart every day. She would have wanted them all mentioned by name, because they could put a smile on her face just by walking in the door to visit her, Meagan and Ryan Wasel, Austin, Rylee and Sebastian Bilello, Gavin and Amo Preston. She also leaves four sisters, Jackie Pechout of New Britain, Rose Davis of New Britain, Betty Witkowski of Burlington, and Rita Malone of Lantana, FL. She is also predeceased by two brothers Sherman and Wesley Root. Ellie lived and worked in Berlin/Kensington for most of her life before moving to New Hartford ten years ago. She retired from Atofina (Arkema) in Kensington, where she worked in the shipping office for many years, and made many friends. She was the kind of person that you couldn’t help but love. Ellie had devoted her life to making her family happy and that was what brought joy into her heart. She will now journey on to be with all those that have gone before her, and she will also be able to hold in her arms her predeceased granddaughter Nikole.
