Eleanor H Maguire, 84, of Galesburg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 9:23 am at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

Eleanor May Holmdahl was born on August 4, 1931, the daughter of Johan Rudolph and Ruth (Rut f Sandlund) Holmdahl in Chicago IL. She was baptized October 11, 1931 and confirmed Evangelical Lutheran in 1943. She graduated from Hirsch Metropolitan High School, Chicago, IL in 1949 and went on to attend at Monmouth College in Monmouth IL from 1949 to 1952.

Eleanor married Richard E Maguire, of Monmouth IL, on June 21, 1952 in Chicago IL. She lived in several states while her husband pursued a career in construction. Eleanor and Richard moved to Monmouth IL in 1959, where she was a homemaker until her two sons became school age, and took a position in the registrar’s office at Monmouth College. After her husband’s retirement in 1993, she and Richard moved to Shady Beach, Geneseo IL.

Eleanor is survived by her son Matthew (Valerie) Maguire of Galesburg; grandson, Dustin Maguire of Galesburg; and granddaughter, Megan (Cade) Hooker and their children, Sophie, Ella Kate and Maggie of Pontotoc, Miss. She is also survived by the Gordon Holmdahl family in Longville Minnesota, as well as, cousins and descendants of the Carl Johan Holmdahl, and Olof Oskar Sandlund families in the Piteå region of northern Sweden, who she met and lived with the summer of 1946 and re-visited in 1998 with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband Richard; son David; brother and sister in law Ralph and Joan Maguire.

Eleanor loved to knit, crochet, needle point, garden. She was an avid NASCAR fan, and loved to watch figure skating and tennis.
