Eleanor Eastman

(nee Gable) on January 23, 2021 of Clarksboro, NJ, went to heaven surrounded by family. Age 93. Loving mother of Mary Vaccara (Tom), Karen Schwartz Stanley (Bruce) and Linda Barton (Rich). Proud grandmother of Kyle Barton, Katie Schwartz, and Lauren Barton. Loved by many special nieces and nephews in NJ, NY, OH, CA, FL, VT and Canada. Dear stepmother to Candace Eastman, and step-grandmother to Dan Eastman (Roxanne) and Debbie Eastman (Clifford).

Eleanor is predeceased by her mother Margaret Hamilton Gable, her father Francis Gable, Sr., brothers Thomas Gable and Frank Gable, Jr., sister Peggy O’Connell, sister- in -law Betti Power, and special cousins Mary Sasso and Joseph Power.

Eleanor was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Hallahan High School. She met John M. Eastman, Jr. at a USO dance and married him in 1954. After his sudden passing in 1961, she raised her three daughters in South Jersey, working as a secretary. Eleanor was a kind and generous person and very independent. In fact, if her daughters didn’t call her, they’d never hear from her. She was always polite and courteous and taught her daughters the importance of manners. Eleanor was an avid reader, and always had a dictionary by her side. She was famous for her chocolate chip cake. She enjoyed traveling with her daughters, including trips to Vermont, Florida, Italy and Ireland. Eleanor will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
