Eleanor E. Langel, 81, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2006, in her home.
Eleanor was born on November 29, 1924, in South Bend, to the late Stephen and Katherine (Engle) Tschida and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy School in 1942. On October 27, 1945, as Eleanor E. Tschida, she married Richard P. Langel, who preceded her in death on June 1, 1994. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Weinzetl; and three brothers, Lawrence, Louis and Stephen Tschida.
Mrs. Langel is survived by her son, Richard P. II (Theresa) Langel of Granger, Indiana; and two grandchildren, Catherine Langel of Chicago, Illinois and Kristin Langel of Granger.
Eleanor worked for Gilbert’s Mens Store in South Bend, in the credit department, for 15 years, before retiring in 1973. She was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Art and Environment Group, a member of the Knights of Columbus Wives Council #553, Daughters of Isabella #572, Friends of the Library, Golden Cluster at St. Hedwig and the Saint Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, painting, especially watercolor and other types of craft work.
