Eldon F. Kuhns, age 84, passed away on May 13, 2011 in Williamsport, PA. He was born December 2, 1926, the youngest of 3 children of Harvey Kuhns, Sr. and Ethel Weaver. At the age of 17 Eldon answered his country’s call, when he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943. He served aboard the destroyer, USS Welles, DD-628 in the Pacific Theater of Operations from 1943 to 1945. In October 1944, near the Philippine islands of Leyte and Samar, the Welles participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the largest naval engagement in history of naval warfare. After the war, Eldon worked for Sylvania until he retired in 1984.

Eldon was preceded in death by his first wife Beverly Keys and also by his sister Arlene Kuhns Seewald and brother Harvey Jr. He is survived by his three children from his first marriage: son, Eldon II, daughters Arie and Amy, and 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In 1974 Eldon married Anne Morrow, a marriage which added a stepson William Morrow III, 2 additional grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren to his family. Eldon was a devoted husband; a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather; a beloved brother and uncle; a proud American and a devout Christian. He was an avid hunter who enjoyed the cabin he built together with his late brother-in-law Gary Harper in 1958.
