Leon was born on May 10, 1925 in Grandview, Texas to Joseph and Lillie Bowles, who have preceded him in death, as well as an infant daughter, Sherry Kathleen Bowles.

Leon married Edith on May 16, 1948 in Dexter, NM. She survives him at the family home.

Leon is survived by a son: Robert Bowles and his wife Lenora of Dexter, NM; daughter: Sheila Smith and her husband Connie Mac of Roswell; Brother: Joe Bowles of San Angelo, Texas; Six Grandchildren: Allen Sudduth and his wife Yolanda of Pixley, CA, Aimee Bertrand and her husband Kevin of Roswell, Ashley Sudduth of Searcy, AR, Alyssa Caine of Roswell and her husband Jeremy Caine of Searcy, AR, Joseph Bowles of Dexter, NM and Chad Smith of Roswell; five great grandchildren: Trey Sudduth, Isaac Sudduth, Taylor Noble, Sariah Bertrand and Christopher Caine.

Leon served his country during WWII. After returning to the States, he worked as a jewelry and watch repairman for 20 years. In 1953, Leon, Edith and Sheila moved to NM where he farmed and worked for Keith Gas. Co. In 1984, he retired to help with the care of his in-laws, Robert and Olive Aston. Leon was a faithful and dedicated member of the Church of Christ at Dexter. Members always appreciated his talent for his song leading.
