Elaine Thompson, 86, of Ottawa, died April 13, at Three Oaks Assisted Living in Cary, Illinois.
Elaine was born on July 28, 1928 in LaSalle to James and Selma (Anderson) Fitzgerald. A 1946 Graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School, she was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Company and later in the LaSalle County Assessor’s Office. She married Richard J. Thompson on Nov. 27, 1948, at St. Mary’s Church in Utica. She was a member of St. Columba church, Catholic Daughters of America, Zetema Club, and numerous bridge clubs. Elaine loved her life in Ottawa; her many friends, her house, her bridge clubs and visits with her family. She traveled extensively both with Dick, while he was alive, and with friends and family. She was an avid bridge player and reader. She was a dearly beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Elaine is survived by one daughter, Marsha (Robert) Willis, of Lake Zurich, one son Gary (Kim) Thompson, of Suwanee, Georgia, 6 grandchildren, Jamie (Joseph) Dix, Mark (Dawn) Willis, Bryan Willis, Lindsay (Thompson) Derbridge, Stacey Thompson, and Chelsea Thompson, and 8 great-grandchildren, Joshua Dix, Haley Dix, Chloe Dix, Kaden Derbridge, Ashlyn Willis, Luke Willis, Cate Willis, and Lily Vater. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 5, 1985, 2 sisters, Marjorie Strong and Helen Marks, and 4 brothers, Donald, Wayne, and Robert Fitzgerald, and Howard Smith.
