Effie Jean Combs, 92, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Florence Ky., on April 7, 2023 at 1:57pm. She was born on February 3, 1931 in Mousie, Ky., the daughter of Thomas and Cassie (Whitt) Wicker. Both parents preceded her in death. On April 21, 1948, she was untied in marriage to William “Bill” Combs, and he passed away on February 6, 1986.
Jean worked at the R.G. Dunn Cigar Factor in Lima, and eventually moved back to Kentucky to be with her family. She was a Member of Garden of Love Regular Baptist Church, a UK Basketball loyal fan, and loved to watch WWE wrestling. She traveled between Ohio, Kentucky and Florida for many years, truly enjoyed camping, and was a great cook. Above all she loved God, and her family.
Jean is survived by her daughter; Faye (Gary) Garrison, of Walton Ky., her grandson; David William Jamison and her great-grandson; Colton Jamison. Jean also has a brother surviving; Elmer Wicker of Lima. She was preceded in death by several siblings; Ruby Chaffins, Lucille, Paulene Gibson, Cleo “Deo” Berry, Buck Whitt, Arnold Sizemore, Sonny Wicker, and Tooley Wicker.
