Passed away Sunday afternoon, October 9, 2016. Ed was born February 2, 1930 in Plainfield, NJ, the son of the late Wolf and Ida (Abramovitz) Goldenthal. Dr. Goldenthal received his Ph.D. from George Washington University in 1956, and thereafter, joined the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) where he worked until 1970. During his years with the FDA he was responsible for granting approval of new drugs in the United States.
He was also responsible for establishing the groundbreaking FDA guidelines for conducting studies on food and drugs that have become internationally known as the “Goldenthal Guidelines”. He played an important role in the establishment of the modern birth control pill.
He later served as the Senior Study Director at MPI Research. He had a life-long passion for watching movies, playing poker, following his favorite sports teams, and being with family. Ed enjoyed cooking his favorite specialties as well as sampling some of the finer culinary delicacies worldwide. On March 1, 1970 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Nan who survives him.
Also surviving are his children, Julie (Hardeep) Rana, Mark (Lori) Goldenthal, Wendy Goldenthal, Aaron Goldenthal, Matthew (Leoan Amick) Goldenthal; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
