Edward W. Simpson of Burlington Township, died Friday, September 30th, at Lourdes Hospital in Willingboro, he was 79 years of age. A graduate of Burlington City High School, he had been employed as a pipe fitter for Hercules in Burlington for more than 50 years retiring in 1982. Mr. Simpson served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict with the First Marine Division under Chesty Puller.
A highly decorated combat veteran he received two Purple Hearts for wounds received in combat, a Bronze Star with combat “V” for valor, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Korean Presidential Medal and the Korean Combat Action Ribbon. He was a life member and past Post Commander of Burlington V.F.W. Post #1817 and was also a founding member of the Post Honor Guard.
A member of the American Legion Post #965 in Burlington Township he was also a member Edgewater Park Lodge #2550, B.P.O.E. and a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 965, Burlington. In addition he was a member of the D.A.V., the Korean War Veterans, the Gray Beards and a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart as well as the First Marine Division Association and the Oneida Boat Club of Burlington. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marian (nee Wright) Simpson, his children and their spouses: Edward R. (Gail) Simpson of Deptford, NJ, Darlene Mundi of Lumberton, NC, and William (Susan) Simpson of Burlington. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Nicole Simpson, John Quartuccio and Scott Marino.
