Edward Michael Coffey, 90, of Toms River, NJ passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at home. Born in Newark, NJ, he lived in Newark and was a proud 1st generation Irish American. He would later move to Toms River over 40 years ago. Edward was a distinguished Firefighter for the Newark Fire Department for 38 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the NJ State Retired Policemen & Fireman’s Association Local 8, the FMBA, and the NJ Firemen’s Relief Association.

Edward was a decorated US Navy WWII veteran, serving in the South Pacific aboard the USS Clay as a Pharmacist Mate. He received 4 stars while serving in the Asiatic-Pacific and 2 stars while serving in the Philippine Liberation. He was also a parishioner of St. Justin RC Church, Toms River.

Edward was predeceased by his son, Kevin, in 1973, as 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy T. (nee Mayer), his 6 children Kathleen Coffey of Pennington, NJ, Maryann Coffey of Forked River, NJ, Dennis Coffey and his wife Dona of West Long Branch, NJ, Corinne Kyriazis of NC, Michael Coffey and his wife Dawn of Kansas, Maureen Coffey and her companion Don O’Neill of Toms River, 6 grandchildren Michael Coffey and his wife Ashley, Joseph Pieretti, Kevin Coffey, Sean Coffey, Elizabeth Hagenmaier and her husband Jude and Jonathan Coffey.
