Edward M. Wadsworth, 83, of Upton, died early Monday, November 24, 2008 in Milford Regional Medical Center in Milford after a long illness. He was a World War II Navy veteran and the husband of Grace C. (Scott) Wadsworth.

Mr. Wadsworth was born in Boston, a son of the late Aaron and Frances (Miller) Wadsworth, and had lived in Upton for most of his life. During World War II, he served with the Navy in the Pacific as a torpedoman on the USS Nevendorf and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He worked for Metropolitan Life, Bay State Abrasives, and Sweet Life of Northborough, until retiring in 1987, and was a member of Teamsters Local 170 and Local 123 of the Asbestos Workers Union. He was also a member of the Marshall-Leland American Legion Post and a life member of George L. Wood VFW Post 5594.

In addition to his wife of 22 years, he leaves one son, Edward M. Wadsworth, Jr. and his wife Betty of Upton; three daughters, Patricia Fales and her husband Joseph of Uxbridge, Catherine Bertorelli and her husband John of Framingham, and Frances Ebbeling and her husband Robert of Douglas; three stepsons, Wayne Garland of Walhalla, SC, Barry Garland and his wife Margaret of Jupiter, FL, and Scott Garland and his wife Molly of Douglas; a brother, Robert Wadsworth of Westminster, CA; 9 grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren. His first wife, Catherine C. (Bouthiette) Wadsworth, died in 1980 after 35 years of marriage.
