Edward L. Rogers, 77, of Three Oaks, Michigan died Saturday morning, December 27, 2014 at LaPorte Hospital.Ed was born June 1, 1937 to Wilbur and Thelma (Jackson) Rogers in Michigan City, Indiana. After graduating from Isaac C. Elston High School in Michigan City he attended Purdue University, then transferred to Western Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education. Ed was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, making life long friends. On August 28, 1960 he married Elna “Ellie” Adams in St. Joseph, Michigan. He began his teaching career at New Troy High School, and when the school consolidated, he continued teaching Math, Trig, Calculus and Driver’s Education at the River Valley High School, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of the Teacher’s Union and was involved in contract negotiations. He was a familiar face at River Valley Basketball Games where he ran the clock. Ed also taught Political Science at Lake Michigan College. He continued to look forward to breakfast each Wednesday with his fellow River Valley retirees. Ed enjoyed fishing, was a sports enthusiast, and avid reader.
Survivors include his wife, Ellie; sons, Rick of Sugar Hill, Georgia and Craig of Three Oaks; his granddaughter Paige; and brother Gary (Ruth) Rogers of Kentwood, Michigan.He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved grandparents, Oma and Bill Jackson; and sister Donna Newman.
