Edward “Bud” McCammon
Edward “Bud” McCammon, 89, of Terre Haute, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 21, 2014. He was born June 28, 1924 in Sullivan, IN to Esther (Anderson) and John McCammon.
His beloved wife of 63 years, I lagene “Genie” McCammon, went ahead of him nearly 2 years ago. Other family members who preceded him in death were his parents; his brother, Jack McCammon; his niece, LaDonna Kay McCammon (11); and his brothers and sisters in-law: Glen (Ruby) Kirchner, Samuel (Martha) Kirchner and Charlotte (Winston) Baker.
Bud graduated from Sullivan High School and moved to Terre Haute when he married Genie in 1948. Most of his working career was with the Royal Crown Bottling Company, but his life-time love was music. He began playing the banjo at the tender age of 4, and won a music contest in Terre Haute when he was 5 years old. Little Buddy and his brother Jack played and sang together from childhood into adulthood.
In Terre Haute he joined the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Singing in America (S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A.). For many years he was one of the Four Flushers, a comedy barbershop quartet that sang together all over the country. His musical life came full-circle a few years ago when he was inducted into the Wabash Valley Musicians Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his two children, Brenda and Mark; his son-in-law, Bruce Tap; his beloved grandchildren, Bethany, Kathleen and Nathaniel Tap; his brother and sisters in-law: William(Pat) Kirchner, Nancy Selsam, Patricia (Lynch) Kirchner and Norma (Minger) McCammon; as well as many devoted and loving nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Brandy Davidson and her son, Kane, for helping with Bud’s care in the last few years.
