February 28, 1950 – December 24, 2021 Ed was born in Rochester, New York to Robert H. Writz and Mary Forest Writz. He lived in Rochester until he completed grade school when they moved the family to Nyack, NY. Ed attended Clarkstown High School where he was well knows as a proud and versatile athlete. After graduating high school he won a football scholarship at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. He attended the School of Mines for only one year when he moved back east to completed his degree in business at Western New England College in Massachusetts. After graduating from Western New England he returned to Colorado where he remained and made his permanent home. Ed spent most of his business career in sales – starting at Phil Long Ford as a manager, then moved to other dealerships before ending up as a mortgage broker which he continued until his illness in 2019. Ed’s favorite pastime was watching football and baseball. He could name every player and statistics from the early 1900’s to today, knew their teams, statistics, and any additional fact about the players or teams. His new favorite pastime the last two years was sitting in his recliner with his grandson and watching the cartoon – Bluey. The two were very close and spent many hours together. Ed’s personal passion, that he shared with all in his family, was that of animal activist, animal rights, and animal protection and preservation.
