Edward Henry Gallagher III, 75, of Plymouth, passed unexpectedly on September 1, 2021. Ed was born on August 29, 1946 in Cambridge to Edward H. Gallagher II and Grace (Gaffney) Gallagher. After graduating from Cambridge Rindge and Latin in 1964, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy. He worked at Commonwealth Gas Company for 30 years. He then worked aboard the Captain John Boats as a crew member for several years, entertaining and educating locals and tourists alike about the natural beauty of the area. Most recently, Ed served as the manager of the Manomet Car Wash. He took great pride in his unmatched work ethic. An active member of the Plymouth community, Ed was a former president of the Plymouth Lions Club, member of the John Alden Sportsman Club, member of the Plymouth Moose Lodge, and president of the local Stroke Club. Ed will always be remembered for his generous and thoughtful spirit, particularly in his service to the South Shore Community Action Council’s food pantry. Additionally, he was a proud supporter of the Nathan Hale Foundation and of backpack programs throughout the Plymouth Public Schools. For decades, Ed delighted hundreds of local children as Santa Claus, bringing smiles and joy to all. The Gallagher family spent many summers at Bourne Scenic Park, quickly becoming close friends with other camping families. When not in Bourne, Ed and his family would vacation with the extended Gallagher family in Seabrook, NH. Ed loved to take a road trip throughout New England on any given day and especially enjoyed giving a tour of the city to friends and family. Ed religiously played the lottery in hopes of hitting it big and sharing it with family and the causes he held dear. Ed is survived by his loving wife and true life partner of 52 years, Denise. He will be dearly missed by his son, Scott Gallagher, and his wife, Susan Kidwell, of Plymouth, and his daughter, Jill Davin, and her husband, Jimmy, also of Plymouth. Ed leaves behind his two cherished grandchildren, Grace and Luke Gallagher, both of Bourne, as well as his brother, Fran Gallagher, and his wife, Patty, of South Yarmouth. His granddog, Sadie, will miss his snuggles and his treats and he will be truly missed by his April Way family. Ed is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Jerry.
