Edward H. Waters, age 81 of Freeport, IL, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Parkview Home in Freeport. He was born June 30, 1935 in Arkansas, KS to the late Laurence and Esther (Anderson) Waters. Edward married Patricia Tryon on August 26, 1956. He was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Seaman High School in Topeka, KS with the class of 1953. While in high school, he played basketball and participated in track, setting several meet records in pole vaulting.

He was also active in vocal music and drama and was a member of the High School Boys Quartet. Edward then went on to attend Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physics in 1957. During college he was a member of the Acapella Concert Choir, was on the track team for 4 years and was president of the Interclub Council.From 1957 to 1962, Edward worked at Westinghouse Electric Corporation as a Design Engineer in the Distribution Equipment Division.

From 1962 to 1997, he worked for Honeywell Inc., Micro Switch Division where he held engineering positions in product design, quality control and marketing as well as manager of application engineering and strategic planning, manual products. He was a member of Embury United Methodist Church of Freeport where he was a member of the Chancel Choir for over 50 years, served as Treasurer for over 15 years and was Chairman of Church Council.

He was also a member of Cornerstone (Micro Switch Employees) Credit Union and served on the board of directors for 30 years: as Chairman for 5 years, Treasurer for 15 years and was also Building Committee Chairman. Other memberships include: Freeport Jaycees, Freeport Choral Society, Golden K Kiwanis and Winneshiek Theater. Edward was also a Senior Resource Volunteer at the Freeport Senior Center where he was on the Board of Directors, Money Management Program Monitor and TaxAide Electronic Return Originator.

He enjoyed reading and sailboat racing. He also loved to golf and made 3 holes in one.Edward is survived by his wife Patricia Waters of Freeport; son, Steven (Cara) Waters of Apple Valley, MN; daughter, Stacy (Chad) Knutson of Brookfield, WI; four grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Sharon) Waters of Topeka, KS; and sister-in-law, Marilyn (David) Smith of Bartlesville, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents.
