Mr. Coats graduated from Muncie Central High School and later served the United States Navy during the Korean War era. Edward married the love of his life, Sally Ann (Mitchell) Coats on April 11, 1961 in Muncie and she survives. Ed had worked for Borg-Warner for 36 years and retired in 1995 as a Supervisor.
Besides his wife of 51 years, Sally Ann, he is survived by three sons, Darrin Coats, Muncie, John Coats, Lansing, Michigan and Jason Coats, Chicago, Illinois; one daughter, Dawn Coats, Noblesville; four grandchildren, Donald Coats, Round lake, Illinois, Stephanie Dwyer (husband-Kevin), Johnsburg, Illinois, Jared Coats, Muncie and Emily Coats, Indianapolis; two sisters, Lenora Strouse, Muncie and Faye Barker (husband-Bob), Parker City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Betty Craycraft, Joan Overbey and Alverna Strouse.
