WASHINGTON-Edna M. Vercler, 99, passed away at 8:50pm Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at Apostolic Christian Restmor of Morton. She was a former resident of Washington.
Mrs. Vercler was born on April 13, 1917, in Kickapoo to John and Katherine (Strickfaden) Eisele. She married Wayne Vercler in Peoria on May 4, 1944. He preceded her in death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by three infant daughters, Susan Kay, Ruth Ann, and Dorothy Mae, and three sisters.
She is survived by one son, Richard (Brenda) Vercler of Washington; one sister, Ruth Ennis, one sister-in-law, Alice Vercler both of Metamora; three grandchildren, Clint Vercler, Andrea (Andy) Knepp, and Ashlee Vercler; one step granddaughter, Janna (Tom) Novak; four great-grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren.
Edna was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who was one of the most fiercely protective and loyal people you would ever meet. She had a sense of humor and quick wit that was particularly familiar to those with whom she felt closest. Although she had an opinion on many issues, she could often be heard saying, “Suit yourself!” Edna also had a true affection for animals and went to great lengths to pamper the cats and dogs on the farm.
Edna spent some time working at the Boss Glove Factory in Peoria and AO Smith in Eureka, but the career she was most passionate about was, without a doubt, the role of homemaker. Edna excelled in the kitchen (especially at baking apple pies and applesauce).
