Edna May Gaither, 84, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. She was a gallant fighter, never complained about her disease, and was indeed a role model in the face of the challenges she faced. Edna was the epitome of kindness and generosity. Nothing was more important to her than her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert R. Gaither, in 2000 and seven brothers. She is survived by her two daughters, Roberta Wagner and husband Jim and Lynne Kennedy and husband Steve; her five grandchildren, Jennifer Brittain, Scott Kennedy and wife Ashley, James Wagner and wife Chelsea, Kari King and husband Mitch, and Coty Kennedy and wife Lizzie; her six great-grandchildren; and by her sister, Lola Case.
Edna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. 13 months ago, she moved into a Beehive home, where she was lovingly cared for by the entire staff. For that care, her family is extremely grateful.
Edna was born on July 10, 1932, in Bayfield, CO, the youngest of nine children who grew up in rural Colorado. She and Robert were married in 1951 and raised their family in the Grand Junction, CO area. As a young wife and mother, Edna was a nurse. The Gaither family moved to Albuquerque in 1971. After that, for a short time, she and Robert roamed America in his North American Van Lines truck, and they loved it. She and Robert were active members of Albuquerque Elks Club 461. Edna enjoyed bowling, traveling, collecting animal creamers, playing bingo every Friday at Sandia Casino, and most of all being with friends and family.
